What to see and to do?
Kaeng Khut Khu
5 km downstream from Chiang Khan the rapids Kaeng Khut Khu, where
you can picnick delicious Isanfood (kai-yang, som-tam, khao-niaw
and kung-ten (dancing shrimps)).
Hueykrating lake
Excellent opportunities for swimming, picnic on a bamboo raft in a
natural environment.
Wats (temples)
Wat Mahathat, the oldest temple of Chiang Khan, 345 years
Wat Tha Khaek, about 334 years
Wat Machatimaram about 77 years
Tai Dam minority village
(BanNapanad) Tai Dam minority people, they live in a small village
about 18 km. from Chiang Khan. Peacefull with their own history,
culture and language. They originate from Vietnam, about 90 -100
years ago.
Main Attractions Loei
province
Phu Rua National park, nearly 1,375 metres above sealevel,
50 km. west of Loei on Highway 203. The parks mainpeak, Phu Rua or
"Boat Mountain" has spectacular views.
Phu Luang Wildlife Sanctuary is known as the "Emerald of
Isan", The highest peak in the province rising 1,570 metres above
sealevel.
Phu Kradung National Park is one of Thailands best known
nature preserves. The park is dominated by a large plateau covering
55 cq km. on top of a mountain that rises 1,350 metres above
sealevel. The maintrail to the peak is a 6 km. walk that takes
about three hours.
Main festivals
Phi Ta Khon, ghost festival in Dan Sai, is held in june.
Wax Prasat Parade and boat races, the end of the Buddhist Lent in
October on the Mekhong River in Chiang Khan.
